Our cottage has free wifi but there is no cell service in the Port Renfrew area. We use Wifi calling/texting through WhatsApp or if you have an Iphone, you can use Wifi to make calls/texts to other Iphones. Cell Service should be available in early 2022 as long as the BC government remains on schedule.
There is a year round gas station, an electric car charging station at the community centre, some good local restaurants. The Renfrew Pub is open year round, as well as the Bridgemen Gateway Marina Bistro, which is located just below the cottage on the water. There is also Tomi's cafe and Coastal Kitchen available in high season for breakfast and lunch. There is also a year-round limited selection grocery/liquor store.
There is absolutely no smoking/vaping allowed anywhere inside the cottage. Smoking is permitted outside on the balcony or the surrounding property area.
There is also a no pet policy as our son is severely allergic to dogs/cats. Please do NOT sneak in your dog, as we visit frequently and we do not want to put our son's health at risk.
The cottages are on a septic system. Your care and attention to this is appreciated.
Check-in is at 4pm. Check-out is at 11am.
The Kitchen:
The kitchen is well equipped with an abundance of cookware, lots of small appliances, including a microwave, toaster, keurig, french press, kettle, and large pot for crabs. We also stock it with coffee, tea, sugar, basic spices and cooking oil.
Washer and Dryer: There are laundry facilities in the bedroom closet.
Fire table: Located on the balcony and is hooked up to the main gas supply. To turn it on, please turn on the gas on the side of the cottage and manually light it with a long lighter (located in the kitchen drawers). Please ensure the gas is turned off after use.
Gas Barbecue: Located on the balcony and is hooked up to the main gas supply. To turn it on, please turn on the gas on the side of the cottage and manually light it with a long lighter (located in the kitchen drawers). Please ensure the gas is turned off after use.
Fishing: If you catch fish or crabs, please clean them at the tables provided at the marina. Please do not bring them up to the cottage to clean.
Electric heat: There is a thermostat controller in every room. You can turn up the heat in each room as desired. We do keep the heat low when the cottage is vacant as electric heat is very expensive in BC.
Manual - Welcome Book
A welcome book upon arrival provides all the information you need for Wifi, Netflix, barbeque, other helpful information and local amenities in the area.
Power outages are frequent in Port Renfrew due to the remoteness and surrounding nature. Depending on the weather, trees can easily fall on the power lines, which will create an outage for the entire town. As such, we have installed emergency lights throughout the cottage that last 4 hours, as well as supply lanterns and a backup battery supply. The backup battery can be used to charge phones, lanterns or even allow wifi throughout the cottage if you plug in the router to the backup battery. Please ensure that the router is plugged back into the wall and the backup battery is being charged after the outage to make sure the battery is charged and ready for the next outage that may occur.
To keep warm, you can use our extra blankets and gas fireplace that will still work during an outage, as well as cook on our gas stovetop that can be manually lit with a long lighter (located in the kitchen).
